Brewery Super Bowl: Brooklyn Brewery v. Sam Adams

Well my NFL beer playoff series has ended and 0f the 10 playoff games my readers predicted 6 of them were correct. Our predictions really took a hit with the late championship game flubs but on the plus side that made for some exciting games.

Over the next two weeks I will be focusing on Super Bowl food pairings to help you “WOW” your friends when they come over to enjoy the big game.  Sam Adams will be representing the Patriots so let me know what your favorite New England food is and I will do my best to pair that with a Sam Adams beer.  Brooklyn Brewery will be representing the Giants so let me now what your favorite New York food is and I will do my best to pair that with a Brooklyn brewery beer.

But now is the time to stand up and vote for your favorite brewery in the Super Bowl.  This poll has nothing to do with the actual athletic merits of either team but solely on the merits of the breweries representing each team.  So throw your team pride to the side and vote for the best beer!  I realize this may take some drinking. . . err, research but consider it training for the big game. Let me know which beer you think will be the MVB in the comments below and I will try to pair that beer with some classic or regional half-time cuisine.

NFL Championship Playoffs

Please excuse the complete lack of commentary but it has been one of those weeks but in a good way thankfully! I would appreciate it if you could share this far and wide as I am away from my work computer and I need your help spreading the word of these polls.
The polls will end when the first game starts this weekend. Thanks for participating, I am sure you will be picking the Super Bowl teams!

Last week we correctly picked 3 of the 4 games and I have a good feeling about this even though we picked a couple of good upsets!  Now, lets see how these games play out.  Monday I will post the next round and recap these games.

NFL Divisional Playoffs

It’s time to pick this weeks NFL Divisional Playoffs.  Three of the four Wild Card Games were picked correctly last week, not too bad.  The polls will remain open up until the specific game time this weekend.

Vote for your favorite brewery in each NFL playoff matchup but don’t let your team pride stand in the way of picking your favorite brewery! Each week through the Super Bowl the winning teams/breweries will be listed in a bracket and a poll will be posted here for you to vote on another Brewery showdown.

The next two weeks are gonna be busy but take the time to research each brewery (drink their beer) and make your voice heard by voting for your favorite brewery.  Remember to choose your favorite BREWERY.

This will be a great matchup between two really great breweries.  St. Arnold’s representing Houston and Clipper City Brewing will be representing Baltimore.

Another great matchup pitting the small (some may say underdog) Great Divide Brewery against the craft beer giant Boston Beer Company.

NY powerhouse Brooklyn Brewery will be making a road trip to Titletown in another great matchup of highly rated beers.

Abita has their work cut out for them as they travel to San Francisco and take on the most important Amendment the US has ratified. .. … 21st Amendment Brewery

AFC & NFC Wild Card Game Match-ups

Vote for your favorite brewery in each NFL playoff matchup but don’t let your team pride stand in the way of picking your favorite brewery! Each week through the Super Bowl the winning teams/breweries will be listed in a bracket and a poll will be posted here for you to vote on another Brewery showdown.

The next two weeks are gonna be busy but take the time to research each brewery (drink their beer) and make your voice heard by voting for your favorite brewery.

The Church Brew Works Brewery will be representing Pittsburgh and Great Divide Brewery will be representing Denver this week.

Remember to choose your favorite BREWERY.   I have been a Steelers fan since I was 6 but that didn’t stop me from picking Great Divide.

While I haven’t had any Little Kings Beer I have heard good things about their blonde ale.  I have had plenty of St. Arnold’s and if you get a chance then you gotta get yourself some of this.

On to the NFC.  I haven’t had any beers from SweetWater but they have been getting pretty good reviews so that gives the Falcons a chance against the NY powerhouse Brooklyn Brewery.

Two really great breweries going head to head here.  I love Jolly Pumpkin and everything they do even if my palate isn’t ready for it. But you can’t count out Abita with their Turbo Dog and Jockamo, two great beers in their own right.

Be sure to let your friends know about this poll by clicking one of the social media buttons below!

CHEERS!

Top 10: Beer Bars

Top 10 Beer Bars

In alpha order because I could pick my favorite but that would make the others feel bad.

The Brickskeller – Washington, DC

-I know it isn’t open anymore but I won’t let keep it off my list.  My first visit (and last time, I guess) here I drank my way through all of St. Peter’s offerings.

Brouwers Café – Seattle, WA

     – Possibly the best beer bar in the world.  I had my first true Belgian style meal complete with mussels, frites and gueze here.

Delilah’s – Chicago,  IL

     – Among other things (great pizza down the block, Twin Peaks on their TV’s, different music styles playing nearly every night) it is great punk bar with some of the best people watching in the world!

Ebenezer’s Pub – Lovell, M

-Tucked in the middle of nowhere is this gem that has been voted best beer destination in the world more than once!

Falling Rock – Denver, CO

-If you can’t decide which Denver brewery to visit first then spend an evening here, get your fill and take some notes.  You will get your brewery bearings for sure.

Fred’s Rivertown Pub – Snohomish, WA

-A small town fish-n-chips place with a great beer and scotch list.

The Map Room – Chicago, IL

-There can be no better place in the world than one where you can drink giant cappuccinos out of dimpled mugs in the morning, not change seats and be drinking a beer out of the same mug by noon!

Monk’s House of Ale Repute – Sioux Falls, SD

-For many years South Dakota was a beer wasteland.  However, I am glad to report that the beer scene is getting better (after I moved, of course) so on your next visit to South Dakota’s largest city be sure to stop at Monk’s.  They have a great tap and bottle selection and every once in awhile they get keg from Surly!

The Royal Mile – Des Moines, IA

-Hidden away on historic 4th Street in Des Moines you will find a little hole in the wall that begs you to come in – be sure you do.  In addition to football on the telly this little English pub has a dozen or so taps that include a handful of nitro taps and several beer engines.  If beer isn’t your thing then be sure to check out their whiskey and scotch list.

Stumbling Monk – Seattle, WA

-A hole in the wall with no more than a dozen taps.  A mile or so from the Space Needle this may be welcome respite from or primer for all the crowds.

Coming soon…

to a T-shirt I know you will want! My son drew this picture for me the other day when he realized that I was selling some of my beer designs on CafePress. I am going to clean up some of the eraser smudges and erase the pencil box but otherwise the design will stay the same.  I will let you know when the design is available.
